Free Comedy Script Promotion June 12th - June 15th 2015

Over these four days, I'm releasing four free comedy scripts from my Crazy Christians collections. Enjoy.

From my Crazy Christians and Digital Daring Deeds collection:
  •  Church Insurance - A pushy insurance Agent tries to sell a policy that covers specific "Acts of God," including pillars of fire and plagues of locusts. He does not find a receptive audience.
  • Battle of the Church Thermostat - A group of insurgent parishioners are making a play to change the church thermostat. They face opposition in every direction from rival factions who also want control of the thermostat.

From my Crazy Christians and Large Frozen Fish collection:
  • Apologetics Clinic - A Christian parody of Monty Python's 'The Argument Sketch.' A hapless patron enters the Apologetics Clinic and encounters a clerk who clearly does not know what apologetics is, and it only goes downhill from there.
  • How Not to be a Martyr - A Christian is told that the only thing he'll be good at is being martyred. He is then given several options for his martyrdom.

Wisdom and Impulse: A Coffee Conundrum

Wisdom and Impulse: A Coffee Conundrum
By Charles B. French
Based on an idea from The Well

We are often pulled in opposite directions. Our wisdom pulls us one way while our impulses another. Sometimes even the wisest of us can fall prey to these impulses. These four quick and humorous vignettes explore this conflict.
Reference Verse: Proverbs 3:21

Characters:
Wisdom – Very calm and wise, has a soft spot for Impulse.
Impulse – Always acting on emotion and what feels right, never stopping to think about what could go wrong

This is loosely based on the old Mac and PC commercials.

God and Politics

God and Politics
By Charles B. French

Christians should not give politicians a pass because they claim to be one of us and invoke Jesus every once in a while. It is not their words but their actions that should matter. We must not be fooled by lip-service, by politicians who says all the right words and seem to hold all the ‘correct’ positions. Do they just talk about Jesus or do they actually live by His teachings? Those are not the same things.

Characters:
Politician – he wants to do what’s Godly, but is easily seduced by the idea of pandering to Christians in order to win elections.
Consultant – a fast-talking demon in disguise
Advisor – another fast-talking demon in disguise who works with the Consultant to steer the Politician the wrong way

Second Coming Show

The Second Coming Show
By Charles B. French

There’s a big difference between expecting the Second Coming and doing little more than sitting around and waiting for it. Not only does it make us look silly when it doesn’t happen, we squander the time God has given us. We are meant to do so much more than wait out the clock, and this script explores what happens with the people who do.

Characters: The show is anchored by cohosts Daniel and Mary. A reporter, Peter is out in the field.
Set notes: The set should somewhat resemble a morning show. Daniel and Mary should sit in chairs stage center while Peter stands off to one side. Some kind of morning show type music should be played at the beginning and end.
The two hosts are talking quietly to each other as the music plays and then turn to face the audience as the music fades off.

Daniel: Hello. I’m Daniel Johnson.

Mary: And I’m Mary Matthews. Welcome to The Second Coming Show, where we await the return of Jesus Christ, who promised one day that He would return.

Chris and Robin Go Into The Wild

Chris and Robin Go Into The Wild
Charles B. French

This is a series of scripts I wrote for a children’s camp. The theme was going into ‘The Wild,’ that unknown place God sends us when we get ‘The Call.’ Each script focused on a different person in the Bible who got a ‘call’ from God. The scenes are meant to be light and funny, with a little bit of Bible teaching and a lot of energy and fun.

Characters – they can be male or female.
Chris: Chris is the responsible one, very straight-laced and wants to do everything by the book.
Robin: Robin is prone to flights-of-fancy and can get very silly but has a good heart. Robin and Chris are often bickering.

High Seas Adventures

High Seas Adventures
Charles B. French

This six part series was performed for our church’s Vacation Bible School. We opened each day with one of the segments, and that introduced the lesson for that day. The final part was performed on Sunday in a big wrap-up session. This script is perfect for Vacation Bible School, but it can also be used for any children’s event.

There are no specific Bible verses references. Instead, each day presented a basic Biblical principle that was reinforced throughout the day.

This production will need some costume pieces and props. The characters should wear proper pirate-style great, and you will need a giant parrot outfit of some kind. If you have younger kids in the audience, they can’t get enough of the parrot. In addition, since they are on board a ship, you’ll need a large steering wheel of some kind.

This script was very popular because it appealed to all audiences. The little kids loved the parrot, and the older kids, and even the adults, liked the banter and the jokes. Everyone got something out of the daily lessons.

I hope you enjoy this script as much as we enjoyed performing it.

The Cast of Characters
Captain Valentine: She’s in charge of the Good Ship Fellow and looking for a new crew to help her sail to Friendly Bay.
Alex: She’s the adventurous type who leaps without looking and usually winds up face-first in trouble
Billy: Alex’s brother. If there’s a book, he’s read it, and he thinks he knows everything about how things work from his reading.
Reginald: A parrot. A Giant Parrot who is Captain Valentine’s First Mate

Sunday Morning Runway

Sunday Morning Runway
By Charles B. French

It’s so easy to forget what church is really supposed to be, and who we are supposed to be there to follow.
Reference Verses: Luke 9:23-26

Characters: Jim is the announcer and Steve is the color commentator. The announcers sit at a table wearing headphones, talking into microphones. They look past the audience at the “runway.”

Parental Priorities

Parental Priorities
By Charles B. French

It can be so easy in our marriages to be overwhelmed by life, be it from our careers or our children. Sometimes parents need to take time for just themselves, recharge, and take a break from it all. A strong marriage leads to better child-rearing and a better life for everyone involved.
Reference Verses: 1 Corinthians 7:3-5

Characters: The Narrator, tells the story of  Barry and Susan, who meet, marry, have children, and become exhausted. Susan’s sister Janet is eventually forced to intervene.

Lingo

Lingo
By Charles B. French

Sometimes we Christians speak another language altogether, and it can be hard to translate to outsiders wondering just what we’re up to.

Characters: Mary is someone who read a flyer advertising a Christian club. When she arrives she meets Rick and Ruth, who are no help whatsoever, and Paul, who finally helps her get to the bottom of things.

Extreme Makeover – Heart Edition

Extreme Makeover – Heart Edition
By Charles B. French

In our zeal to celebrate Christmas, it’s easy to forget the real reason for the season and instead focus on everything that doesn’t matter. We make ourselves and everyone else miserable during a time of year when we should be celebrating and contemplating God’s great love for us.
Reference Verse: Luke 2:8-20

Characters: Gary is the type of person who makes everyone miserable by trying to make Christmas perfect. He should be dressed somewhat Christmassy and will have a cell phone.  Ty is the host of the show who wants to change Gary’s heart.
