Free Comedy Script Promotion June 12th - June 15th 2015

Over these four days, I'm releasing four free comedy scripts from my Crazy Christians collections. Enjoy.

From my Crazy Christians and Digital Daring Deeds collection:
  •  Church Insurance - A pushy insurance Agent tries to sell a policy that covers specific "Acts of God," including pillars of fire and plagues of locusts. He does not find a receptive audience.
  • Battle of the Church Thermostat - A group of insurgent parishioners are making a play to change the church thermostat. They face opposition in every direction from rival factions who also want control of the thermostat.

From my Crazy Christians and Large Frozen Fish collection:
  • Apologetics Clinic - A Christian parody of Monty Python's 'The Argument Sketch.' A hapless patron enters the Apologetics Clinic and encounters a clerk who clearly does not know what apologetics is, and it only goes downhill from there.
  • How Not to be a Martyr - A Christian is told that the only thing he'll be good at is being martyred. He is then given several options for his martyrdom.

Script Promotion Week

This week, Monday through Black Friday, I will release two free scripts for two days. Each day's scripts will be from a different one of my collections.

November 24 & 25
From my Dramatic Duets collection:

Gilda Does Something Funny
About this script: This duet examines learning how to trust God to work out the finer details, using the example of one of the funniest women of all time, Gilda Radner. That’s right, a Not-Ready-for-Prime-Time-Player is a spiritual lesson for us all.

The Counselor is [In]
About this script: Taking a page from Charlie Brown, this duet examines why being a Christian is not a guarantee that you won’t have problems. Our main character is having a tough time of it and can’t seem to catch a break. What’s worse, the usual Sunday School answers don’t help, as he’s doing everything right and still struggling. He exposes the dirty little secret that we Christians like to keep to ourselves. Perhaps it’s time we’re more honest with each other.

November 25 & 26
From my Crazy Christians and Digital Daring Deeds collection:

Facebook Inquisition
About this script: The Facebook Inquisition pounces on a poor individual because his Facebook activity isn't Christian enough.

How it Really Happened
About this script: A speaker giving his testimony is hooked up to a lie detector, and the truth of what really happened comes out.

November 26 & 27
From my Conversations Through the Pages: Old Testament collection:

Cain and Abel
About this script: This conversation occurs between Cain and Abel a little while before Cain murders his brother. They argue about faith and the nature of God.

Moses and Pharaoh
About this script: This conversation occurs between Moses and Pharaoh, as Moses demands the ruler let his people go. It’s about a man of faith, struggling with doubts, who still fights for what is right.

November 27 & 28
From my Crazy Christians and Large Frozen Fish collection:

A Christmas Persecution
About this script: When three parishioners are barred from putting up a Nativity scene on city property, their pastor realizes that the ban was definitely justified.

Have I Got a Hymn for You!
About this script: An aspiring hymn writer can't seem to realize why his efforts are soundly rejected.

November 28 & 29
From my How to Evangelize People collection:

Tis the Season
About this script: As the Narrator tries to address the subject of Christmas, Eric discusses why he has a restraining order against Santa.

Friendly Neighborhood Atheist
About this script: As the Narrator tries to address the subject of engaging atheists, Andy learns new words.

August 14 & 15
One Cross Martyr
(from my Dramatic Duets collection)

About this script: This duet examines what does and doesn’t count as suffering for Christ. Sometimes we think that being a general nuisance counts as martyrdom, when in fact, we’re just being insufferable jerks who are doing more harm than good for the Gospel message.

August 15 & 16
End Times Anonymous
(from my Crazy Christians and Digital Daring Deeds collection)

About this script: We have a meeting of End Times Anonymous, a support group for people disappointed that the End Times, Rapture, and Second Coming haven't happened yet.

August 16 & 17
Mary and Elizabeth
(from my Conversations Through the Pages: Old Testament collection)

About this script: This conversation occurs between Mary and Elizabeth, soon after Mary discovered she was pregnant with Jesus. They discuss what it means to trust God when it seems everything is going wrong, and the road ahead looks bleak.

August 17 & 18
Dead Pastor Sketch
(from my Crazy Christians and Large Frozen Fish collection)

About this script: A Christian parody of Monty Python's classic 'Dead Parrot Sketch.' A customer tries to return a pastor he purchased because the pastor was dead. However, the clerk refuses to concede that the pastor he sold is, in fact, dead.

August 18 & 19
The Lost Episode
(from my How to Evangelize People collection)

About this script: As the Narrator tries to address the subject of not letting biases interfere with discerning who is and isn't a Christian, Eric discovers why Andy is a terrible negotiator.

These are for Amazon Kindle. If you don't have a Kindle, you can download the free Kindle app that will let you use it on all your mobile devices.

Punch in the Face

Punch in the Face
By Charles B. French

You can say you're acting in Christ's name, but that doesn't automatically make it so. Far too many Christians have used Christ to justify hurting others, which is by definition 'Using the Lord's name in Vain.' When you encounter others in the world, make sure that your actions are in line with the teachings of Christ. For it is our actions more than our words that spread the Gospel.

Characters:
Fred is someone who really wants to punch people in the face.
Gene is someone who really does not want to be punched in the face.

Gene casually walks onstage. Fred rushes towards him from the opposite direction.

Fred: Stop right there.

Gene: (stopping) What?

Fred: Don’t take another step.

"Real Women" with Luci Fir

“Real Women” with Luci Fir
By Charles B. French
Co-written by Lisa, Dana, and Brandi

What does it mean to be a “real woman” in the world today? Everyone has an opinion, not all of them good. Sometimes it seems like the more a woman tries to follow this advice on real womanhood the more miserable she gets. This script explores those issues, the internal conflict that faces many women today, and presents a way out from under the burden of unneeded guilt and obligation.

Note: This script was performed for a women’s retreat and broken into three sections, each scene used to kick off a separate session. While the following script is broken into three parts, it can be performed all at once, and you only need to omit the lines about taking a “commercial break.”

Characters
Angeline – she’s having a terrible nightmare. She is an ordinary woman burdened with many insecurities about what it means to be a woman, unsure of what she should and shouldn’t do.
Luci Fir – the devil in Angeline’s dreams, she is there to give Angeline advice on what it means to be a “real” woman, sometimes invoking Scripture to make Angeline feel even more guilty and inadequate.

Wisdom and Impulse: A Coffee Conundrum

Wisdom and Impulse: A Coffee Conundrum
By Charles B. French
Based on an idea from The Well

We are often pulled in opposite directions. Our wisdom pulls us one way while our impulses another. Sometimes even the wisest of us can fall prey to these impulses. These four quick and humorous vignettes explore this conflict.
Reference Verse: Proverbs 3:21

Characters:
Wisdom – Very calm and wise, has a soft spot for Impulse.
Impulse – Always acting on emotion and what feels right, never stopping to think about what could go wrong

This is loosely based on the old Mac and PC commercials.
